Look at what's for sale in Flagstaff for any length of time and you start to see the same thing under every listing: a compromise, just a different one each time. The nineties house you’d overpay for – expensive now because the market carried it there, not because it was ever worth that. The 1932 downtown place, full of character and freezing behind it: single-pane windows, no insulation, its rooms carved too small for the way anyone lives now. The new build in the country clubs and suburbs, generic enough to be anywhere. And every so often, a genuinely beautiful home, designed around a life that isn’t yours.

Any of these will cost you – both financially and in the years you spend adjusting to a house that never quite fit, when one could have fit from the start.

I’m Meredith, a Flagstaff architect. I design the home that isn’t on that list – the one that’s unmistakably yours. If you’re starting from land – even the lot (*leaving lot bc otherwise we say starting from land, even the land you’re half-afraid to want? Which I guess also makes sense?) you’re half-afraid to want, the steep, wooded strip three buyers before you called impossible – I shape the design around the ground it sits on and how you live, not a layout that could belong anywhere, to anyone. And if you’ve fallen for a place that’s right in only one way – the dated home in the good neighborhood, the downtown place whose historic fireplace could anchor the whole remodel – I find the version worth having, whether that takes a light touch or a deeper reworking.

How that happens – from the first conversation to the day it’s done – is its own story.

If you've looked at everything on the market and none of it has felt like yours, let’s design something that does.
